Jessica R. Toler Huerta, DO
Jessica R. Toler Huerta, DO is a fellowship trained and board certified physician in primary care sports medicine. She specializes in non-operative treatments of orthopedic/sports medicine injuries and ailments.As an Osteopathic physician, Dr. Huerta utilizes Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT) as a treatment option for patients because it incorporates hands-on care including stretching, gentle pressure and resistance. Dr. Huerta also has extensive training in musculoskeletal and sports ultrasound, dry needling/injection therapy including prolotherapy and Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy.
Dr. Huerta is a native Texan and grew up in San Antonio, where she attended Communications Arts High School. She attended Baylor University in Waco, TX, where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Forensic Science with a Minor in Anthropology. She went on to graduate school at the University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth, TX, where she earned a Masters degree in Medical Sciences before completing her education as a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine in 2010.
During her residency at Methodist Charlton Medical Center in Dallas, TX, Dr. Huerta served as the chief resident before moving to LECOM/Millcreek Community Hospital in Erie, PA, to complete her Fellowship. While completing her Fellowship in Primary Care Sports Medicine at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Erie, PA, she served as the team physician for the Mercyhurst University Women’s Ice Hockey Team. In addition, she also served as a team physician for the Erie Bayhawks NBA D-League Basketball Team, the Erie Otters Ontario Hockey League Team and the Erie Explosion Continental Indoor Football League Team.
Dr. Huerta is a member of the American Osteopathic Association, American Osteopathic Academy of Sports Medicine, and American Academy of Family Practice. In addition to her passion for sports and the treatment of athletes, she enjoys running, fly fishing, quilting, crocheting, and spending time with her husband and son.
